Jammie Poole Jr., Principal

School Type: Regular School
Grades: 9-12

Orr Academy High School is located in the West Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago and serves 1280 students in grades 9-12.  In the fall of 2008, Orr High School will reopen with a new administration and faculty that is determined to close the student achievement gap.  As a 2008-2009 Turnaround School, Orr will select a team of outstanding educators to implement a rigorous curriculum.  We will continuously analyze data to modify instruction and drive student achievement by meeting each student’s individual needs.

Orr’s staff will collaborate to foster a school culture of respect and responsibility.  We will hold our students to high social and academic standards.  They will take ownership of their education and become community leaders upon graduation.

Orr Academy High School will be a genuine learning community for all. Teachers will participate in 5 weeks of professional development prior to the opening of school to build their community and collaboratively plan for curriculum, culture, and climate for the school. As an AUSL training academy, Orr Academy High School also offers experienced teachers opportunities for paid roles as mentors for trainees in AUSL’s urban teacher residency training program. Join the Orr team and work to create what will soon become a widely recognized success story.

Orr Academy High School is managed by the Academy for Urban School Leadership (AUSL), a nonprofit organization selected by CPS.  All teachers and staff at AUSL-managed schools are employees of the Chicago Public Schools, , and paid on the salary schedule of the Chicago Teachers Union collective bargaining agreement.
